Who can apply

WBPSC Clerkship eligibility and age limit

  • Education: Madhyamik from WBBSE or an equivalent qualification.
  • Age: 18–45 on 1 January 2024; birth dates from 2 January 1979 to 1 January 2006.
  • Computer and typing: elementary computer operation; 20 words per minute in English or 10 in Bengali. Choose the typing option when applying.
  • Language: ability to read, write and speak Bengali; the mother-tongue Nepali exemption applies.
  • Nationality: Indian citizenship or another nationality declared eligible by the Government of India, with the required eligibility certificate.

Age relaxation and reservation

West Bengal SC/ST candidates receive five years of upper-age relaxation; West Bengal OBC non-creamy-layer candidates receive three. The advertisement states a PwBD upper-age provision up to 45. Eligible ex-servicemen receive service-related relaxation under the stated rules.

West Bengal SC/ST/OBC and EWS reservation benefits do not extend to candidates of those categories from other states. Keep valid category certificates ready; the notice requires category certificate PDFs of no more than 100 KB. OBC-NCL and EWS certificates must be renewed or revalidated as required before the computer and typing assessment.

Application fee and exemptions

Selection process and examination pattern

  1. Part I: objective written examination. Shortlisted qualifying candidates proceed to Part II.
  2. Part II: conventional written examination.
  3. Computer operation and typing: assessed after qualifying in both written parts.

The final merit list uses the combined written marks, subject to qualifying in the computer and typing assessment. Incorrect MCQ answers deduct 0.25 marks.

Aggregate qualifying marks

UR, EWS and meritorious sportsperson: 40%; OBC: 38%; SC: 35%; ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen: 30%. These are aggregate qualifying thresholds, not predicted Part I cutoffs; the Commission may set stage-wise qualifying marks.

Accessibility provisions

Eligible candidates with benchmark disabilities and writing limitations may use a scribe under the notice conditions. Compensatory time is 20 minutes per examination hour, subject to the required medical certification.
